We’ve done a rather large update and overhaul of the FAQ and Policy page. Please consider taking a gander over there, as many of your questions can be answered there (yes, please volunteer- we’ll love you forever. And please wait until after AnomalyCon 2015 to inquire about vendor information for AnomalyCon 2016)

Big art news!

AnomalyCon is modifying our art show this year. That’s right, we heard your voices and we listened (though our top scientists are investigating this strange phenomenon and assure us they will get to the bottom of the voices in our heads)! This year we are proud to present a profit-earning art room.

For more information, head on over to our new Art Show page!

Volunteer Meetings!

We’ve received a few queries about volunteering and now we finally have dates for meetings! Everything will take place at Castlewood Library (6739 S Uinta St, Centennial, CO 80112).

1/3 — 1:00p – 4:00
2/7 — 11:00a – 1:00
3/7 — 11:00a – 1:00

If you want to volunteer, attending just ONE of these meetings is mandatory. We’ll have a lovely overview of responsibilities and bribes.

Vendor Room is Full!

We’ve received multiple requests for the vendor room. At this point, AnomalyCon’s vendor room is completely full. We have a long waiting list already so it’s not very likely we can accommodate any additional vendors for 2015. We’ll make announcements for the 2016 vendor room shortly after AnomalyCon 2015 closes. Thank you for your understanding.

New Hotel!

Due to management changes at the DTC Marriott and feedback we’ve received from attendees, we have made the decision to change venues to the DTC Hyatt. Rooms are now available for reservation for $89/night $90/night, and you can reserve under the AnomalyCon reservation rate for Thu, Fri, Sat and Sun nights. Click HERE or visit our location page to make your reservation while rooms are available!

We are most thrilled to announce that Cory Doctorow will be joining us!

Cory Doctorow (craphound.com) is a science fiction author, activist, journalist and blogger — the co-editor of Boing Boing (boingboing.net) and the author of young adult novels like HOMELAND, PIRATE CINEMA and LITTLE BROTHER and novels for adults like RAPTURE OF THE NERDS and MAKERS. He is the former European director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and co-founded the UK Open Rights Group. Born in Toronto, Canada, he now lives in London.

We’re also thrilled to say that tickets for Cory’s session at Breakfast with Brilliance–at which he will be available for digital keysigning in addition to a reading, q&a, and other shenanigans with breakfast–will be available for just $10. Since weekend passes are currently only $20, that’s an awesome deal!

We’ll also be joined by S.J. Chambers.

S. J. Chambers’ fiction and poetry has appeared in a variety of venues including Mungbeingmagazine (which is currently running her wino-fiction serial Vintage Scenes), New Myths, Yankee Pot Roast, and in anthologies such as the World Fantasy nominated Thackery T. Lambshead’s Cabinet Of Curiosities (HarperCollins, 2011), Zombies: Shambling Through The Ages (Prime Books, 2013), The New Gothic (Stone Skin Press, 2013), the Spanish Steampunk anthologies Planes B and Acronos II (Tyrannosaurus Books, 2014), and in the forthcoming Steampunk World (Alliteration Ink, 2014) and the Starry Wisdom Library (PS Publishing, 2014) collections.

Her non-fiction has appeared at Tor.Com, Bookslut, WeirdFictionReview.com, and Strange Horizons (where she was also the Articles Senior Editor for two years). She has been nominated for a Pushcart prize, and her first book, The Steampunk Bible (Abrams Image, 2011) co-authored with Jeff Vandermeer, was nominated for the Hugo and World Fantasy award.

She can be found to blog irregularly at www.selenachambers.wordpress.com

J.A. Campbell is writing a 4-piece short story for our new newsletter! You can find out more about her at her website: www.writerjacampbell.com.

Van Aaron Hughes is also joining us! He writes science fiction and fantasy short fiction. His story “The Dualist” was a winner in the Writers of the Future Contest. His fiction has appeared in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Writers of the Future Vol. 27, InterGalactic Medicine Show, and other publications.

Finally, we’re thrilled to announce that we are adding both a History track and a Safety and Sexuality track for 2015! We can’t wait to see you there!

Pardon the dust–we’re hoping to have a new facelift here in just a few days.

COMING IN 2015 – THE SILVER STEAM FILM FESTIVAL

AnomalyCon is well-known for being a home for Steampunks and all walks of science fiction. We thrive on invention and innovation, and so the only logical next step is to hold our own film festival!

Yes, a special event is coming to AnomalyCon next year and YOU can help make the Silver Steam Film Festival great–and win prizes and the Golden Cog while you’re at it! We are partnering up with Girls of Geek12 to bring you this awesome event, to expand AnomalyCon’s horizons AND give budding filmmakers or professional filmmakers a chance to have their hard work seen!

The criteria for this event are as follows:
We are dividing the festival by category and by length. Short Films can be anywhere from 10-30 minutes while features can be 30 minutes or longer.
We are looking for entries in Horror, Science Fiction, Fantasy (urban fantasy is OK) and Steampunk.

Your entry does need to be in high definition, since we want to show off your incredible work in the best quality out there.
If your film would be considered Rated R, we do need know in advance why when you submit it.
For this year only we will accept submissions of films we have previously screened (priot to AnomalyCon 2015), since the judges will not have seen them.
Your film must adhere to our harassment policy.
Finally, the only people that can submit a feature to this festival, are the people involved with the production. That also means anything submitted in your film, you must own any and all applicable copyrights, this includes music and the like and by submitting the film you agree to let Anomaly Con screen the film, with no further obligations.

Now that we have the rules out of the way, we’re ready to see your work! We want to get as many entries in as early as possible so that we can determine the lineup and publish everything in our online and physical programs for 2015. We ask that you submit a full length digital copy via Google Drive to girlsofgeek12@gmail.com. If you want to submit a hard copy via DVD or thumb drive, email the same address for more information on where to send the hard copy.

The cut off for entries is the last week of February so we can get your films into the schedule for AnomalyCon 2015 and to give you plenty of time to fine tune your masterpiece. Oh, and we probably should mention…this isn’t just for fun. There will be awards for the best films in their respective categories! A panel of judges will examine each film and vote on the winner in each length category (and each genre if we receive enough submissions) to receive a Golden Cog.

We can’t wait to see what amazing motion pictures you have put together and we wish you the best of luck on being best in show next year at The Silver Steam Film Festival!

AND A REMINDER: PRE-REGISTRATION IS ONLY $15 THROUGH MAY 31! ON JUNE 1 IT WILL COST $20 FOR A WEEKEND PASS.
